Despite of its well known Ramen (noodles) and Sashimi (raw meats), its Sukiyaki (barbecued food) was also definitely worth trying. For barbecued crabs, Hakodate should be the best place to go. It is in southern Hokkaido, right next to the Japan Sea. Therefore it offers fresh and cheap seafood. A medium sized "spider crab" which is more than enough for five people costs less than HK$500. After the crab meal, try climbing up the Mt. Hakodate by ropeway to catch the best night view in the world. For barbecued beef, Kobe is very well known for Hong Kong people. But I do advise you to go to Matsumoto. Beef in Kobe tends to be too fat and oily. Instead, beef in Matsumoto is less fatty, with fat evenly distributed in vertical. Still, it is soft and juicy. Besides, its price is more reasonable than the Kobe's. Wanna check this place out? See this Japan National Tourist Organization site map for details .(Matsumoto is somewhere around Nagoya. It takes around three hours to get there from Tokyo by Shinkansan Express.) |
